Chased by the Min Min Lights
Lyrics
Out in the never-never, late at night… something’s watching. And it’s got lights. I was driving the long road from Boulia to home, Dust on the windscreen, radio starting to roam. Clock said midnight, not a soul around, When these floating white orbs started following me down. They hovered and danced like mischievous ghosts, Keeping perfect distance, like they wanted a host. I slammed on the brakes, they stopped in mid-air, I took off again… and they followed me there! Min Min Lights! Chasing me through the night! Glowing orbs in the Queensland sky so bright! Are you spirits? Are you aliens? Or just having fun? Following this old dad till the morning sun! Min Min Lights! What do you want from me? Dancing on the horizon, wild and free! Outback mystery that no one can explain, But they sure know how to mess with a dad’s brain! I tried to outrun ‘em in my old Holden ute, Did 140 k’s but they stuck like glue! Flashed my high beams, gave ‘em the finger too, They just bounced and swirled like they were mocking my crew. Pulled into a servo, told the bloke at the till, He laughed and said “Mate, you’ve seen the Min Min thrill!” They’ve been doing this since the Dreamtime days, Leading travellers astray in mysterious ways. Some say they’re lost miners with lanterns aglow, Others reckon they’re UFOs putting on a show. Me? I think they’re just lonely outback mates, Looking for a chat and a couple of cold VB’s late! Finally they faded as the sun kissed the sky, Left me shaking but laughing, I can’t deny. Now every long drive when the stars come alive, I crack an extra stubby and say “G’day, you lot, drive!” If you’re ever out west on a lonely night road, Keep your eyes peeled for that mystical glow. They might just follow you… or guide you back home, The Min Min Lights — Australia’s greatest unknown! Min Min Lights! Light up the outback sky! Best bloody mystery that money can’t buy! Whether ghost or spaceship or trick of the eye, You made this dad’s night — hip hip hooray, aye! Min Min Lights! Come back anytime! Chase me again on the next long drive! Outback legends that never grow old, The Min Min Lights… pure outback gold! Yeah… if you see ‘em, give ‘em a wave. They might just wave back… in their own spooky way. Min Min Lights… you bloody legends!
